SEASICK STEVE ANNOUNCES 14 DATE SPRING TOUR FOR 2015
NEW ALBUM ‘SONIC SOUL SURFER’ OUT 23RD MARCH

seasick_steve_hard_rock_calling_200902_website_image_gallery_standard

Seasick Steve releases new album, ‘Sonic Soul Surfer’, March 23rd on the Caroline International label. Produced and written by Seasick Steve and recorded in his front room at the little farm where he lives, it’s his seventh studio record and most ambitious work yet. Along with longtime drummer Dan Magnusson, the album also features Luther Dickinson (Mississippi All Stars) playing slide guitar on two tracks, Georgina Leach on fiddle and Ben Miller playing jaw harp on lead track ‘Summertime Boy’, a song celebrating the life and sunshine of California.

“The whole record is mostly me and Dan sitting there drinking and playing,” says Steve. “There ain’t a whole lot of producing going on! But I know what I’m doing and I know what I want.”

Since appearing on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny on New Year’s Eve 2006, Seasick Steve’s career both on record and onstage has gone from strength to strength. It’s been quite a ride, and in the process he has established himself as one of the best live acts in music today.

Next April, he returns for the first time in 4 years for a full UK tour armed with a batch of fantastic new songs for what promises to be one memorable tour.

‘Sonic Soul Surfer’ takes Seasick Steve into hitherto uncharted territory on what is arguably his best album to date, from the haunted backwoods hillbilly twang of ‘In Peaceful Dreams’ to the slippery boogie shuffle of the car song ‘Barracuda ’68’ and the rolling groove of ‘Sonic Soul Boogie’.

Lyrically too, it broaches new territory, with celebrations of wanderlust and good-time boogie behaviour side-by-side with thoughtful ruminations on time past and time passing, most impressively in ‘Heart Full Of Scars’, where he acknowledges how the older you get, the more emotional baggage you carry.

‘Sonic Soul Surfer’ is Seasick Steve’s first album since 2013’s ‘Hubcap Music’, which featured guests such as John Paul Jones and Jack White. Nominated for numerous Brit awards he won the Mojo award for Best Breakthrough Act in 2007.

System Of A Down return to UK in April 2015

SOAD

SYSTEM OF A DOWN
TO COMMEMORATE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE WITH

 ‘WAKE UP THE SOULS’
WORLD TOUR

  • BAND TO PLAY VERY SPECIAL, ONE-OFF LONDON SHOW AS PART OF WORLD TOUR. THEIR FIRST INDOOR UK SHOW SINCE 2005

  • LANDMARK TOUR WILL SEE MULTI-PLATINUM, GRAMMY WINNING ALT-ROCK GROUP PERFORMING IN HOMELAND OF ARMENIA FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER

System Of A Down, will be heading to London in April 2015 to play an exceptionally special and important show on 10th April 2015 at The SSE Wembley Arena as part of their ‘Wake Up The Souls’ World Tour. This show will be their first indoor show in the UK since 2005.

April 24th 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, an attempted extermination of the Armenian people by the Ottoman Empire. A century later, System Of A Down refuse to let the victims or lessons learned be forgotten. On April 10th, 2015, they’ll commemorate the Genocide’s 100th anniversary on the world stage with their “Wake Up The Souls” arena tour, an international trek that begins at London’s SSE Wembley Arena and culminates with the band’s first-ever performance in Yerevan’s Republic Square.

Commemorating the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the ‘Wake Up The Souls’ tour is not just about seeing one of the best live bands performing a rare and very special show, it’s also about an extremely important political, social, human issue. System Of A Down want to clearly state that this is not directed at the people of Turkey, but rather at the atrocities that were carried out. In a statement issued today, the band said:

“As we mark this solemn centennial, please join us and the good people of conscience in Turkey to take a stand for truth and justice, and ask their President and Parliament to accept the Republic of Turkey’s moral and material responsibility for the Armenian Genocide.

With your help, such a historic step taken by the people of Turkey in the spirit of human solidarity, heartfelt compassion and justice will not only heal the wounds of one genocide, but will more broadly represent a truly transformative step toward a new age – an era without genocide.”

Fans looking for information about the “Wake Up The Souls” tour and/or how to get involved should visit the band’s official site, systemofadown.com, where they’ll see content curated by the group, along with an interactive “heat map” splash page featuring the band’s statement about the tour and cause, along with tour dates, ticket links, share options, fan-generated content and “Take Action” instructions.

Tickets for this exceptional show will go on general sale at 10am on Friday 28th November, priced at £37.50, (subject to booking fee) from www.livenation.co.uk

Here is the bands full statement about the Armenian Genocide and the World Tour:

“The first genocide of the 20th century was perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks against the empire’s Armenian, Greek and Assyrian populations. The failure to prevent the atrocities or punish the perpetrators led to the modern cycle of genocide.

In the aftermath of this WWI Era mass murder, there were no Nuremberg-type trials, no international courts to exact justice from the perpetrators or to offer reparations or rights of return to its victims. In the place of justice, Turkey bartered its oil rights and leveraged its geopolitical capital to block Woodrow Wilson’s planned territorial restoration and reparations for Armenia.

The Turkish state, having escaped responsibility for its attempted annihilation of an entire nation, continues to harvest the rich fruits of its crime. Its leaders today, emboldened by the world’s inaction, try to enforce a gag-rule prohibiting the U.S. and other governments from speaking honestly about this atrocity.

Horrific stories of the first modern genocide filled the front pages of the NY Times starting in 1915.  The U.S. humanitarian response to this crime, from the American Red Cross to Near East Relief, marked America’s emergence as an international humanitarian power.  Yet, sadly, it was the world’s failure to punish the perpetrators of this genocide that set the dangerous precedent of a genocide committed with impunity that has so emboldened tyrants – from Hitler to al-Bashir – to use mass murder as a tool of policy and power.

The German army, allied with Ottoman Turkey, seeing Turkey evade accountability, drew a terrible lesson from this atrocity about the willingness of the world to turn a blind eye to the planned extermination of a whole race under the guise of war.  One young German soldier named Adolf Hitler of the Great War later remarked “WHO NOW REMEMBERS THE ARMENIANS?” as he orchestrated what is now known as the Holocaust.

Our answer is WE DO!

We will not allow the crime of despots coupled with the greed of world powers and their interests in resource acquisition to pen our history.

Despite the UN Genocide Convention and numerous ad-hoc international bodies, including the U.S. Atrocities Prevention Board, this worst of man-made diseases continues to spread because the world’s response to genocide is viewed as a political choice, not a moral necessity.

By demanding a truthful and just resolution of the Armenian Genocide we are saying Never Again to all genocides.  Never again will we stand by while people are murdered for belonging to a select race, ethnic, or religious group as they were in Turkey, Nazi Europe, Cambodia, East Timor, Rwanda, or Darfur.

There are already brave souls within Turkey, who – at risk of prosecution, persecution, and even violence – are openly calling for recognition and reparations for the Armenian Genocide.  Many other Turkish citizens share these humanitarian values, but have not yet spoken out – intimidated by a government that has, for too long, obstructed the peace that only truth and justice can bring. It’s time to break this silence.

As we mark this solemn centennial, please join us and the good people of conscience in Turkey to take a stand for truth and justice, and ask their President and Parliament to accept the Republic of Turkey’s moral and material responsibility for the Armenian Genocide.

With your help, such a historic step taken by the people of Turkey in the spirit of human solidarity, heartfelt compassion and justice will not only heal the wounds of one genocide, but will more broadly represent a truly transformative step toward a new age – an era without genocide.

Thank you,

System of a Down”

TO CLOSE DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL 2015

MÖTLEY CRÜE ARE SUNDAY MAIN SUPPORT FOR THEIR LAST EVER UK FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE

ENTER SHIKARI TO HEADLINE SECOND STAGE

image

The worst kept secret in the Rock and Metal has finally been officially confirmed. KISS will bring Download 2015 to a close when they headline the main stage on Sunday 14 June.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have carved themselves emphatically into the pantheon of Rock mythology with their huge choruses, unmistakable visuals and extraordinary, pyrotechnical live performances. KISS return to Donington having graced Monsters of Rock in 1988 and 1996 and headlined Download, Europe’s biggest rock and metal festival, in 2008. Singer Paul Stanley sees Download as the ultimate measure of a rock band’s standing:

“Download has become a tradition of stature that separates the pretenders from the contenders and the champs from the chimps. It will be an honour to take our turf and leave no doubt why we wear the crown.”

Meanwhile, bassist Gene Simmons said:

“To all our fans – our intention is to get on that stage, blow the heavens to smithereens and take no prisoners.”

Main support comes in the form of the final ever UK Festival Performance by iconic hell-raising metalheads Mötley Crüe. With the Crüe due to disband for good in early 2016, Download will have the honour and privilege of bringing a truly unique festival career to a blazing conclusion. Bassist Nikki Sixxx said:

“It’s always an over the top day and night at Download Festival and we’re really excited to be coming over to the UK and playing the show.”

Rock legends making the ultimate festival pilgrimage don’t stop there as seminal shredder Slash polishes and shines the trusty top hat to make his second appearance at Download with one of rock’s top vocalists, Myles Kennedy, and The Conspirators. Slash said:

“Download is a very special event for me. It’s been a major destination since I started and I’m always excited to be a part of it.”

Headlining the second stage and representing the new kids on the block are electronicore pioneers Enter Shikari, after the January 2015 release of their massively anticipated album The Mindsweep. Singer Rou Reynolds is looking forward to the authentic festival experience:

“The thing I love more than anything is playing outside, at night. We thank Download for the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the great outdoors and engulf and deluge festival-goers with our noise. It is an honour to be closing the night and because of this we will bring with us illuminations. Do attend.”

These bands join a mind-blowing Download 2015 line-up that already includes headliners Slipknot and Muse. The line up confirmed so far is looking like this:

DESERT STORM announce album details and confirm appearance at London Desertfest

Desert Strom

Oxford-based riff-hounds, DESERT STORM, have today unveiled details of their upcoming album, and confirmed an appearance at the London edition of Desertfest 2015.

The five piece band entered the studio earlier this year to lay down the tracks for the album, which will be titled ‘Omniscient’. They recorded the ten track album with Jamie Dodd at Flesh & Bone Studio, Hackney, before the producer – who counts Orange Goblin among his credits – returned to The Animal Farm studio in south London, where it was mixed.

The band commented: “This album is a natural progression from our previous releases; it has elements of blues, sludge, stoner, psychedelia and even a bit of folk. We’ve mixed things up a bit for a more interesting album – in our opinion. We’re looking forward to seeing what other people think, come January”.

The follow up to 2013’s critically acclaimed ‘Horizontal Life’, which was mastered by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Cathedral) now has a confirmed release date of 26th January 2015. What may appear to the untrained eye to be a straight up stoner rock album, has a bluesy depth and at times veers towards a folk-tinged acoustic edge.  A taster of the album has already been unveiled by way of the track ‘Queen Reefer’ which was recently streamed by Terrorizer magazine.

Click here to listen to Queen Reefer.

In addition to the album news, DESERT STORM are delighted to confirm that they’ll be on the bill at the 2015 Desertfest in London. Sleep, Red Fang and Orange Goblin are already confirmed for the event which will take place at various venues in Camden, between 24th-26th April.

Desert Storm 2

If you like bands like The Sword, Clutch and  Down you will definitely dig Desert Storm. ‘Omniscient’, their third album, is their heaviest, yet most diverse release to date and will be released on January 26th via Blindsight Records.

Slipknot Announced as Download 2015 Friday Headliners

Download Logo

June 12-14 2015

Slipknot Logo

ANNOUNCED AS FRIDAY HEADLINER FOR DOWNLOAD 2015

JUDAS PRIEST ANNOUNCED AS MAIN SUPPORT

BLACK STONE CHERRY AS SECOND STAGE HEADLINER

Here we go again: the mighty cogs of Europe’s biggest rock and metal music festival are turning and the production line of epic live performances is thundering into life once more. Download 2015 is underway.

And what a Friday headliner it has produced…

The biggest, angriest monster of a metal band to emerge in recent years, Slipknot storm into Download Festival for the fifth time and the first since the release of their colossal new album .5: The Gray Chapter with new masks and a new, mind blowing stage show. The seven time Grammy-nominated Iowa nine have become one of the most iconic live acts in the musical world thanks to their extraordinary musicianship and dramatic, instantly recognisable aesthetic. Frontman Corey Taylor adds:

“Being invited back to Download always feels like coming home. Headlining Download, for the 3rd time, feels like the culmination of a life’s dream. It’s an honor, a privilege and we’re all looking forward to it.”

Main support comes from locally-bred Metal Gods Judas Priest. The Birmingham rockers played the first Monsters of Rock in 1980 and come to Download for a second time, having previously played in 2008. Priest are ecstatic at the prospect of renewing their longstanding acquaintance with Donington:

“35 years ago Judas Priest took the stage for the first Monsters of Rock at Castle Donington!

We are thrilled to be performing at Download 2015 as the band continues its 40th anniversary

‘Redeemer of Souls’ World Tour that brings us home to see and hear the roar of our priest family.”

Headlining the second stage on Friday are Kentucky hard rockers Black Stone Cherry. Last year’s secret band return for a full set following the success of their titanic Magic Mountain album and hugely successful UK arena tour. Speaking on their return to Donington Park, guitarist Ben Wells said:

Getting the opportunity to not only return to one of our favourite festivals, but to come back as headliners of the 2nd stage, for the 2nd time is just UNREAL!  After the recent tour we just finished in the UK, we didn’t know how to come back in a bad ass way and thanks to our friends at Download and the fans who keep us going, we’ll be back to rock your ass and give you the best show we can!  Thank you all for this opportunity. We love you and we’ll see ya in June!

Marauding alt-metallers Five Finger Death Punch also add their musical muscle to the line-up, coming to Donington for the first time since the release of last year’s blockbuster two-parter, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell.

Download has become a key part of guitarist Zoltan Bathory’s live music calendar:

“Playing Download Festival is always a highlight for us as it is a bonafide global Rock n’ Roll destination

everyone travels to and brings their A game to….Both the bands AND the audience. You rarely see

crazy crowds like this. In fact, it is vividly etched into our memories since it was the place where we

may have broken the record for biggest crowd surfing in recorded history.  I think the migration of

Atlantic salmon took second place.”

And if that line-up doesn’t fulfil the every need of rock fans the world over, Download still has details of two more whole days of awesome headliners to announce. So watch this space…
