Rock icons Whitesnake are set to return with their 12th studio album this spring. “The Purple Album” will be released in the UK on May 18th via Frontiers Music SRL. “The Purple Album” is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for Deep Purple’s Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums.
So I am currently in France at Hellfest 2014. If this festival is not on your radar already, it needs to be. Not only does it have the best line up going with headline slots for Iron Maiden, Aerosmith and Black Sabbath and supporting roles for the likes of Rob Zombie, Avenged Sevenfold, Deep Purple, Soundgarden,Status Quo, Alterbridge and the mighty Slayer. That is all without even mentioning the separate sub-stages each dedicated to a particular sub-genre of rock all metal including, Stoner Rock, Death metal, Punk and Black Metal.
This place is unbelievably huge and decked out with the most amazing asthetics and side shows. Check out the pictures below to get an idea of what this place is like.
However, what I like most about this place is that it has the feel of an old school festival. It is right smack in the town of Clisson near Nantes and the whole town gets taken over for 5 days. All roads leading into the beautiful town of Clisson are closed with cars abandoned at the side of the roads and people camping on any bit of available grass in the town as well as the designated campsites. The supermarkets have hour long queues on every checkout and metallers can be seen everywhere letting out a huge mexican wave style roar every once in a while that makes them sound like a Germanic horde ready to lay waste to the town. It makes me think of what festivals like Woodstock and Monterey must have been like in the 60’s (just without the peace and love). Best of all, the locals really embrace the festival and can be seen outside their houses waving to passing metalheads or trying to make a little money hear and there. Apparently this weekend sets them up for the next 12 months so no wonder they get behind it.
This place is truly great. My only gripe is that you are not allowed to bring anything to cook on into the campsite which makes feeding yourself on a budget for 5 days pretty tricky and for a coffee addict like me, it leaves me with no option but to brave the long queues at the supermarket which is far from ideal when I need my fix.
Anyway, enjoy these pictures of the site. I will add some of bands as the weekend goes on.
Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Slayer and More
France’s Hellfest Open Air 2014 has officially announced the line up for next June’s offering after a leaked line up appeared last night. I was looking at the leaked line up with my jaw laying on my cold laminate flooring last night as it is without doubt the best line up I have ever seen. I was tempted to post something about this last night but decide to wait until it was officially as it really was too good to be true. The news today is, it is true and I cannot believe it. Just for starters Hellfest has two main stages which will be headlined by… brace yourself…
Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold and Emperor. It’s like they have taken the best headliners from this and next years UK festivals and said, “fuck it, let’s have them all.” The big names don’t stop there either, other names announced include:
Rob Zombie, Deep Purple, Soundgarden, Megadeth, Status Quo, Alter Bridge, Trivium, Monster Magnet, Clutch, Soulfly, Sepultura, Napalm Death, Opeth, Paradise Lost, Electric Wizard, Phil Anselmo and the Illegals, Flogging Molly, The Misfits and more.
The festival takes place in Clisson, France between the 20th and 22nd June. Tickets cost 190 euros for 3 days including camping – a bargain compared to UK festivals given that line up. Tickets can be ordered through the official website http://www.hellfest.fr/splash/ and you can check back here for further updates or follow the festival on Facebook.
Here is the line up so far.
Now pick your jaw up off the floor and order some tickets!
