The Led Zeppelin reissue campaign continues in 2015, turning the spotlight on the double album Physical Graffiti. The deluxe edition of the group’s sixth studio album will arrive 40 years to the day after the original debuted on February 24, 1975. The reissues of the first five Led Zeppelin albums in 2014 found both commercial successes, with multiple titles reaching Top 10 chart status in countries around the world, as well as widespread critical acclaim, including the recent Classic Rock “Reissue Of The Year” Award.

As with the previous deluxe editions, Physical Graffiti has been newly remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page and is accompanied by a disc of companion audio comprising previously unreleased music related to the original release.

Certified 16x platinum in the U.S., the commercial success of Physical Graffiti was equaled by its critical reception. Generally regarded as one of the greatest double albums of all time, the original 15 tracks represent a creative tour de force that explores the band’s dynamic musical range, from the driving rock of “Custard Pie” and acoustic arrangement of “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” to the Eastern raga of “Kashmir” and funky groove of “Trampled Under Foot.”

The companion audio disc that accompanies the deluxe edition of Physical Graffiti has seven unreleased tracks, including rough mixes of “In My Time Of Dying” and “Houses Of The Holy,” as well as an early mix of “Trampled Under Foot” called “Brandy & Coke.” All the unreleased companion tracks offer fans a chance to hear well-known songs from a different perspective, including the Sunset Sound mix of “Boogie With Stu” and “Driving Through Kashmir,” a rough orchestra mix of the band’s eight minute opus “Kashmir.” Also featured is “Everybody Makes It Through,” a strikingly different early version of “In The Light” with alternate lyrics.

Relapse Announces First Round of 25th Anniversary Vinyl Reissues

Includes Classic Albums from Amorphis, Human Remains, Pan-Thy-Monium and Incantation

2015 marks the 25th anniversary of renowned independent heavy music label, Relapse Records. Late last year, the label revealed numerous special plans to commemorate the milestone including an extensive reissue campaign of many of their classic and underground titles on deluxe vinyl. Now the first string of titles has been revealed for release on February 24th.

Amorphis – Elegy

First up is Amorphis‘s watershed album Elegy on 2xLP. Originally released in 1996 and out of print on vinyl for almost 20 years, Elegy saw the Finnish death metal giants expand their signature sound into uncharted territories. A captivating blend of progressive metal, lush atmospherics and traditional Finnish folk elements, Elegy is considered by many to be the revered band’s most accomplished album to date.

Human Remains – Using Sickness As oA Her

Next is the seminal, underground grind/tech/math metal classic, Using Sickness As a Hero, from NJ’s Human Remains. Consisting of a pedigree of musicians who went on to form bands like Deadguy, Burnt By The Sun, Discordant Axis, Gridlink, and many more, Using Sickness As a Hero will now be available on vinyl for the first time ever!

Pan. Thy. Monium – Khaooohs & Kon-Fus-Ion

Also coming to vinyl for the first time ever is the final recordings from cult Swedish avant-garde, progressive death metal band, Pan.Thy.Monium, entitled Khaooohs & Kon-Fus-Ion. Pan.Thy.Monium. was the brainchild of Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath, Witherscape) and Khaooohs & Kon-Fus-Ion, originally released in 1996, is a thoroughly complex and brilliantly bizarre extreme metal classic.

Incantation – Onward to Golgotha

Finally, Incantation‘s legendary, soul-devouring death/doom debut, Onward to Golgotha, originally released in 1992, will once again be pressed to wax. Out of print for the last five years, and one of Relapse’s first releases, Onward to Golgotha remains one of the most blasphemous, harrowing, and uncompromisingly heavy death metal records to date.

All of the reissues, along with every Relapse title from 2015, will be pressed on various colors including a special silver anniversary edition available only at Relapse.com. A trailer showcasing all of the vinyl editions can be seen above hile pre-orders for all four reissues, including brand new Human Remains and Amorphis shirt designs are available at this here.

1973-1977 Studio and Live Albums to be Released

on 26th January

Universal have announced the release of a new box set of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd line up’s incredible studio and live LPs which were originally released between 1973 and 1977. Each LP will have exact reproductions of original artwork to retain authenticity, and will be pressed to 180 gram heavyweight audiophile vinyl and contained in a rigid slipcase box.

The box set will contain the albums:

One More From The Road (1976)
Street Survivors (1977)

Lynyrd Skynyrd are best known for popularizing the southern hard-rock genre during the 1970s. The band rose to worldwide recognition on the basis of its driving live performances and signature tunes Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird. At the peak of their success, three members, including band leader Ronnie Van Zant, tragically died in an airplane crash in 1977, putting an abrupt end to the band’s most popular line up.

This looks to be a great collection for any fan of Southern Rock, bringing together, for the first time, a complete picture of the Southern Rock giants at their peak.

Download Festival Announces 19 More Bands for 2015

Download Logo

In a surprise Sunday night announcement Andy Copping and co have confirmed the addition of 19 more bands to the 2015 Download Festival line up including the likes of Billy Idol, Clutch, Eagles of Death Metal, Lamb of God and Rise Against.

Plans for the 2015 festival are well underway and the line up is starting to take shape quite nicely with these recent additions.

Billy Idol will be returning to Download for the first time in five years as part of his tour of the European festival circuit. Some fans may turn their nose up to the addition of Billy Idol, especially if “White Wedding” is their only knowledge of the Generation X icon who, in his prime, exhibited a level of hedonism that would make Motley Crue blush. Anyone who has seen Idol live will know that he puts on an impressively raw performance full of his famous sneering punk attitude. Billy Idol said:

It was a fantastic experience playing at Download 2010 in the teeming rain with the audience completely unfazed. So if that was fun, this year should be dynamite! See you there!

Groove Metal behemouths Lamb of God, who are rumoured to be releasing a new album next year, complete with lyrics written during Randy Blythe’s time on remand at Pankrac prison in Prague, will be returning from a short hiatus to bring some serious heaviness to Download fans.

Elsewhere, America’s most successful rock performer in the Billboard charts, the four times Grammy-nominated Godsmack, have been announced to appear at Download for the very first time, in 2015, following the release of their critically acclaimed “1000hp” album, earlier this year.

What has got me really excited is the announcement that balls-out, tongue-in-cheek rockers Eagles of Death Metal will also be making their Download festival debut. I love the records these guys have put out and they will add that bit of fun and humour to Download that has been serviced in recent years by Steel Panther and it will be a welcome change.

The other announcement that has got me very excited indeed is the addition of Clutch, who will be returning after a four year abscence to deliver their sermon of authenticity and cool in the sludgiest, funkiest stonery way possible. These guys always put on an amazing show and are responsible for some of my favourite albums of all time, including last year’s Earth Rocker which was my number 1 album of 2013. They still seem to be flying somewhat under the radar for some unknown reason. Make sure you go to see them as you will discover some of the finest music made in the last 20 years and I challenge you to not be mesmerised by, frontman, Neil Fallon’s shamonic on stage performance.

The full list of bands announced are as follows:

Backyard Babies

Billy Idol

Black Veil Brides

Body Count

Crown the Empire

Eagles of Death Metal

Every Time I Die

Hollywood Undead

Lamb of God

Mad Ball

Mallory Knox

Motionless in White

Parkway Drive

Rise Against

With headline appearances from Slipknot, Muse and Kiss, and main support slots for Judas Priest, Faith No More and Motley Crue, not to mention Slash, Black Stone Cherry, Five Finger Death Punch and Marilyn Manson, I think it is fair to say Download 2015 is looking very good indeed.

The full line up so far looks like this

Tickets are available at www.downloadfestival.co.uk.

New CD ‘We Are The Brave’ out Feb 16th 2015

It’s fair to say that Skarlett Riot don’t lack confidence. As anyone that’s had the pleasure of witnessing this young four-piece live will attest to.

In an already jam-packed career Skarlett Riot have wowed audiences at Download (earning a 4K live review from Kerrang!) and Bloodstock, and have shared stages across the UK with the likes of Wednesday 13, D-A-D, Reckless Love, Heaven’s Basement, Periphery, Firewind, Black Spiders, Edguy, Taking Dawn, L.A Guns, Glamour Of The Kill, Crashdiet, Vains Of Jenna, Deaf Havana, Francesqa plus many more.

Formed back in 2010, this female-fronted band were soon taking their local scene by storm with their powerful, riff-led songs, blending melody and grit with a muscular garage rock’n’roll backbone. Add to that an ear for infectious hooks, and you have a band that not only has bags of attitude but the songs to back them up!

The band’s debut EP, the critically acclaimed “Villain”, set the benchmark high and led to glowing praise within the rock community; Big Cheese, Kerrang, Powerplay, Rocksound were all glowing in their praise. The band released a music video in support of the EP which hit rotation on Scuzz and Kerrang TV which led to the band landed a slot at the legendary Download festival where the band were invited to open the Pepsi Max stage. A chance they grabbed with both hands and earnt themselves another 4K review in Kerrang, as well as a place in Scuzz TV’s ‘Top 40 Bands Who Rocked Download’ piece.

DYNAMO Metal Fest announces first three bands for inaugural event

DynamoDYNAMO Metal Fest announces first three bands for inaugural event

Death Angel, Alestorm, and Nuclear Assault are the first bands to be confirmed for the first edition of the all new Dynamo Metalfest.

The festival will be held at the spiritual home of heavy metal festivals, Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The brand new festival will be a back to basics, one day event highlighting the best of homegrown and international heavy metal.

“We want to have a line up which has room for the established names as well as for the new bands on the rise,” says Tjerk Maas , promotor of Dynamo Metalfest. “ The opening spot is reserved for a talented local band and the headlining act, whom we will soon announce, will appeal to a big audience. We want to see young as well as older metal fans at Dynamo Metalfest.”

The Bay Area’s Death Angel have been pioneers of thrash metal, leading the charge in the 80’s and still whipping fans into a frenzy today.  Their passion and adrenaline-fuelled performances haven’t dulled over the years. Just like Nuclear Assault; the thrash crossover band from New York is celebrating their 30th anniversary next summer by gracing the stages of big European metal festivals – and we’re proud to announce that Dynamo Metalfest will be among them.
The infectious “pirate metal” of the Scotsmen, Alestorm, has already proven to be a hit in Eindoven, proven by a sold out show at the Dynamo club.

Watch the video trailer for Dynamo Metalfest here

In order to make the festival accessible to as many people as possible, tickets are just €15. These can be bought online <<HERE>> but can also be purchased at all Primera outlets and at the box office of the Dynamo Club.
Dynamo Metalfest will take place on Saturday July 18th 2015, at the semi-covered ice rink in Eindhoven.  There will be a total of eight bands hitting the stage, as well as a metal market and refreshment stalls.
